Danish Kaneria's lawyers have said that they will challenge the absence of witness Mervyn Westfield if he does not appear for a hearing on Monday. Speaking to Reuters from London, Kaneria stated that his lawyers were informed that his former Essex team-mate would not attend the hearing in London.

Kaneria said that he was surprised by this development and he will challenge his absence when the hearing proceedings begin on Monday. Kaneria and Westfield were found to have underperformed in a Pro40 match between Essex and Durham in 2009. Westfield pleaded guilty to the charge of corruption in the spot-fixing case and the ECB handed Kaneria a life-ban in June 2012.

The former Pakistani leg-spinner has also been suspended by the PCB pending an outcome in the appeal hearing, reiterated that he wanted Westfield to appear before the five man ECB panel.

"He has accused me of corrupting him and my lawyers want to question him again as his testimony played a huge part in my life ban."
