A captain faces a lot criticism when his team goes through a prolonged lean patch but India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni does not mind becoming a "punching bag" if it saves the other players from pressure.

India have been going through a bad phase since last year and the effectiveness of Dhoni's leadership has been questioned quite often in the recent times. However, Dhoni says he is okay with all the criticism thrown at him, calling himself a "punching bag".

"I accept whatever comes to me. I feel good that I'm the punching bag because there's less pressure on the team. You need to have a few punching bags in the side. Sachin has been there for quite some time now, he takes away all the tension.

I don’t think everybody gets chance to be the punching bag, so I am happy that I can take a bit of tension for my team,” said MS Dhoni, the strongest man in the Indian side, in more ways than one.

Junaid Khan

Pakistan have won the toss and elected to field

India were 29/5 at one stage against a rampant Pak attack and also to battle the heat and humidity of Chennai. Dhoni never gave up and kept pushing himself on. Along with Raina initially and then with Ashwin later on, he has given India a great score to defend on this wicket.

Pakistan take a 1-0 lead in the series. Deservingly too. India did well to fight back from some tight situations. Dhoni did it with the lower order when they batted. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar led the way with the ball. They would lay some blame on a crucial umpiring error when Jamshed was adjudged not out on 24. Ashwin was guilty of overstepping and missed out on a wicket in the process. Yuvraj dropped Jamshed on 68. There was a flicker of hope for India when Ishant Sharma sent back Misbah-ul-Haq but Shoaib Malik steadied the ship. Jamshed went past his second ODI ton and helped Pakistan coast to a win.

Pakistan: 228/4 (48.1 Overs)
India: 227/6 (50.0 Overs)

Pakistan won by 6 wickets

The Man of the Match is MS Dhoni despite his hundred in a losing cause.

Former England captain Geoffrey Boycott feels a poor series against Australia could force Sachin Tendulkar to retire from all forms of cricket as the world doesn't want to see the Indian "embarrass" himself with repeated failures.

"He desperately needs some runs against Australia in the Test matches in March, because I don't think any of us want to see him embarrass himself with more failures after failure," Boycott said.

Pakistan have won the toss and elected to field

The Indian batsmen have done their job this time. Yuvraj did the bulk of it. His career best score of 72 helped India recover from a tricky situation and finish strongly. Dhoni gave him very good support for a while and their stand was definitely one of the turning points of the innings. The wicket has stayed true and is very good for batting.

A cracking game of cricket and India deservedly level the series 1-1. Pakistan started off well and were kept in the hunt by some exceptional batting from their skipper Hafeez but Dinda ensured that India didn't have to worry by taking care of three crucial wickets.

Those 2 balls changed the entire complexion of the game. The ones that I'm referring to are the ones where first Umar refused the single and then he was bowled next ball. From then on it put immense pressure on Hafeez who succumbed. But still credit must be given to Dinda. He gave away 12 runs off his last two overs and took 3 wickets which ensured Ishant had enough in the tank for the last over.

India 192/5 (20 overs)
Pakistan 181/7 (20 overs)

India won by 11 runs

Yuvraj Singh is the Man of the Match for his 36 ball 72.

Hafeez is the Man of the Series for his back to back fifties.

Batting great Sunil Gavaskar reckons that Mahendra Singh Dhoni should "take a break" from Indian cricket captaincy and Virat Kohli will be an ideal replacement as he can bring in the "necessary flair like Tiger Pataudi."

"It's still early days as far as 2015 World Cup is concerned but I believe that a break in captaincy will do wonders for Dhoni. I am not saying that it has to happen during the middle of a series but may be after the Australia series or later part of 2013. We need to have a look at that," Gavaskar said.

The legendary opener felt that a break might give Dhoni an opportunity to put things into perspective and reflect on his game and leadership.

Veteran Brett Lee faces a disciplinary hearing after criticising the New South Wales cricket administration and its chief executive David Gilbert, Cricket Australia said on Friday.

Lee is in trouble over comments he made that Anthony Stuart had lost his job as New South Wales coach because he was made the scapegoat for the alleged deficiencies of Gilbert and the Cricket NSW hierarchy.

"I think the blame for a lot of things has been unfairly dumped on Anthony Stuart," Lee, 36, told the Sydney Morning Herald last week.

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar said that persistent criticism for the last one year might have played a part in Sachin Tendulkar's decision to quit ODI cricket. He remarked that it would have been wonderful had he gone to make 50 ODI centuries and retired.

Tendulkar has ensured a prolonged slump during the past one year. On Sunday, he announced that he was retiring from ODI cricket.

Gavaskar said, "He is a person who really cares about Indian cricket. I think whatever he saw, read and heard forced him to make this decision. He is going to finish up on 49 ODI hundreds. It would have been wonderful if he had gone out with 50 centuries to his credit. However, he knows his body well and this might have played a major role in his decision."

England have won the toss and elected to field

Teams:
India (Playing XI): Gautam Gambhir, Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni(w/c), Ravichandran Ashwin, Parvinder Awana, Piyush Chawla, Ashok Dinda

England (Playing XI): Michael Lumb, Alex Hales, Luke Wright, Eoin Morgan(c), Joseph Root, Samit Patel, Jos Buttler(w), Tim Bresnan, James Tredwell, Stuart Meaker, Jade Dernbach

India 177/8 (20 overs)
India seemed to lose their track in the middle when Yuvraj, Gambhir and Rohit fell. Dhoni, however, came out and played a blinder to get India to this total. Raina played a fine hand. A word of appreciation to the English fielders who saved a minimum of 20 runs by diving and sliding around.

England 181/4 (20 overs)
England have squared the series 1-1. The chase was very professional from England. The openers gave them a great start. Yuvraj Singh pulled things back with a miserly spell where he picked up 3 wickets as well. A lot depended on Morgan who came in late to take England across and he did it in style.

Yuvraj Singh is the Man of the Series for his good showing with the ball in both games.

Eoin Morgan is the Man of the Match for his superb knock under pressure.

Lumb was in his elements right from the start of the chase, dealing in boundaries at a regular rate to reach his maiden T20I fifty. However, England felt the heat when four quick wickets went down and from a position of strength, the visitors were fighting hard to stay in the game. This was when Morgan took charge of the proceedings and came up with a brilliant piece of batsmanship. Boundaries came at will for the left-hander, who took a liking to Ashok Dinda, smashing him for 21 runs off just seven balls, which included a six off the final delivery of the match when England required 3 runs.

Beginning the mind games ahead of the limited overs series against the arch-rivals, ace Pakistan off-spinner Saeed Ajmal says he is ready to bamboozle the Indian batsmen with a new variety of deliveries.

"I have some varieties up my sleeves for the Indian batsmen," he said.

Ajmal said the series will be a tough test for his side since India have a formidable batting line-up.

"For T20s and ODIs, they have a strong batting set up and it is going to be a challenge against them. It does not matter whether I am bowling to Sachin Tendulkar or Virat Kohli. My aim is to get wickets for my team," he said.

Ajmal, who has remained among the top three bowlers in the ICC Test, ODI and T20I rankings since last year, said he was prepared to bowl on batting tracks in India.

"I have always believed that a quality spinner shows his class on such pitches against good batsmen," he said.

The spinner said he did not see the series as any revenge series for the defeats Pakistan suffered at the hands of India in the Asia Cup and World T20 this year.

"Every match is a new match. We have a good strong side and we know that beating India in India will be a significant achievement for us. So we are focusing on this series as a new series," he said.

Ajmal was all praise for uncapped off-spinner Adnan Rasool, who performed well in domestic cricket this season.

"This guy has loads of talent and he is the future Saeed Ajmal of the team. Head coach, Dav Whatmore is also impressed with him and I think he should get his chance in the Pakistan team soon," he said.

Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders will open their campaign at home against last year's semifinalist Delhi Daredevils in the inaugural match of the Pepsi Indian Premier League VI at the historic Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata on April 3.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Indian Premiere League (IPL), Raman Sundar tweeted that the auctions for the latest edition of the IPL would be held on Feb 3rd in Mumbai.

The 2013 season's lung opener could not have got any better as two of the strongest teams in the tournament will set the tone for the high-octane Twenty20 tournament that will go on for eight weeks.

One of the many highlights of the sixth edition of the tournament will be the debut of Sunrisers Hyderabad, who joined the IPL fraternity in October this year.

They will begin their IPL innings with a home game against Pune Warriors India on April 5.

The tournament will be played in the same format as the 2012 edition. Each of the nine participating teams will play the other eight twice -- home and away. The top four teams, at the end of the round-robin stage on May 19 will qualify for the Playoffs.

The Qualifier 1 and Eliminator games will be played at the M A Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai -- the home ground of the IPL 2012 runners-up - on May 21 and May 22 respectively.

The Qualifier 2 encounter and the Final, will be played at the Eden Gardens -- the home ground of the 2012 edition winners -- on May 24 and 26 respectively.

As many as eleven venues have been confirmed to host the matches. The nine home venues apart, matches will be played at two arenas that will be making their ODI debuts in January. The last two 'home' games of the Kings XI Punjab will be played at the HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala, which has hosted seven IPL matches since 2010.

The Jharkhand State Cricket Association International Stadium Complex at Ranchi, will host the last two 'home' games of the Kolkata Knight Riders.

India have won the toss and elected to field

Teams:
England (Playing XI): Alex Hales, Michael Lumb, Luke Wright, Eoin Morgan(c), Samit Patel, Jos Buttler(w), Tim Bresnan, James Tredwell, Stuart Meaker, Danny Briggs, Jade Dernbach

India (Playing XI): Gautam Gambhir, Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni(w/c), Ravichandran Ashwin, Parvinder Awana, Piyush Chawla, Ashok Dinda

England 157/6 (20 overs)
After the end of 10 overs, England were 89/1. In the last 10 overs, England managed only 68/5. Yuvraj Singh was the star as he picked up his best haul in T20Is. Hales scored a magnificent half century but England lost their way in the middle overs. Samit Patel and Jos Buttler struck some lusty blows towards the end as they helped England reach 157/6.

India 158/5 (17.5 overs)
England were never in the game after they lost a flurry of wickets post a strong start. On a batting paradise a score well in excess of 180 runs was required. The fact that India's batsmen came out attacking made things difficult for them as well. Yuvraj Singh dazzled with an all-round performance.

Yuvraj Singh is the Man of the Match

When a player like Michael Lumb is going great guns, having raced to a half-century to help England amass more than 80 runs in the first ten overs, the opposition is under tremendous pressure and making a comeback from that position is tough to say the least. However, Yuvraj Singh came up with a fine spell of bowling to restrict England even when they were looking set to score in excess of 180. Yuvraj picked up three crucial wickets and gave away just 19 runs off his 4 overs, which helped India restrict England to a total of 157/6.

MS Dhoni has decided to stay away from controversial questions surrounding his captaincy after the Test series debacle against England. A number of former greats of the game have asked for Dhoni to step down as Test captain and be replaced by Virat Kohli.

The Indian captain was clearly perturbed when he was again probed on the same issue by an English journalist. "Before the start of an important series, I don't want to comment on that. Because when it comes to Indian cricket, if it's not going the right way, questions pop up about captaincy, senior players, junior players, the kind of talent we have got, the bench strength we have got. Everything will pop up and if you keep answering, I think we will be short of time," replied the Indian captain.

Dhoni further stated that there was no indication from Sachin Tendulkar about his retirement. "No, nothing at all," he said. He added that India would have to quickly adapt from Tests to the shortest version of the game. "It's demanding to switch formats as Test cricket is totally different from T20 matches, but as international cricketers we are supposed to stand up to the demands of the game. Maybe one more practice session would have helped but this is the only one we have. So we have to make the most out of it."

Dhoni was also not concerned with the rankings and played down the fact that India could become the No.1 T20I side if they whitewashed the two series against England and Pakistan. "We are never bothered about the rankings. If we do well on the field the rankings take care of themselves. It's like I am repeating myself but that's what I have always said."

Dhoni also stated that Kevin Pietersen was a special player and thus the franchises are willing to take a risk with him. "KP is a special player. Franchisees are willing to take a gamble even if he's available for 7 or 8 games in a season. You have to be that special for franchisees to run after you even though you may not be available for the major part of the season," said the India and Chennai Super Kings captain.

The news comes just over a year after Vilanova first had a tumour removed from his throat.

Rosell revealed assistant coach Jordi Roura would take charge of the first team while Vilanova, who took over from Pep Guardiola at the Nou Camp this summer, underwent his treatment.

That decision is set to be made after Thursday's surgery but for now Rosell offered the club's full support for Vilanova and his young family.

Rossell admitted Vilanova had told him of the news yesterday, but tonight's confirmation was delayed until after a meeting with the players.

Speculation in the Spanish press has already linked Guardiola, who left the club to take a year-long sabbatical in the summer, with a return, but sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta denied any contact had been made.

Zubizarreta also expressed his shock at the news, saying: "It was difficult news to hear this morning.

Vilanova has enjoyed a superb start to his tenure in the hotseat, helping Barcelona establish a nine-point lead at the top of the Spanish league standings after winning 15 of their opening 16 games while drawing the other.

Ahead of the scheduled ODI between India and Pakistan on December 30, the Madras High Court on Tuesday, directed state government authorities to allow the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association to use three stands at the M A Chidambaram stadium here for public use during the match.

The First Bench, comprising Chief Justice M Y Eqbal and Justice T S Sivagnanam, directed the respondents to permit TNCA to use 'I', 'J' and 'K' stands for the use of public through sale of tickets for the match.

Holding that the present permission has been granted only on consideration of the peculiar circumstances and taking note of the importance of the event, the bench said, "This permission granted shall not be treated as a precedent for any future matches and shall be confined only to the match scheduled on December 30."

It was stated that the match was to be witnessed by thousands of cricket fans, several hundreds of visiting fans and 50 delegates from Pakistan, including the chairman of the PCB.

TNCA had prayed for an interim injunction restraining authorities from interfering with the use of I, J and K stands in the stadium for the match.

Corporation of Chennai had issued a notice to lock, seal and demolish the stands, alleging that the construction of these stands was unauthorised and had been carried out without planning permission under Town and Planning Act, 1971.

The bench also stayed the conditions imposed by Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Chennai, not permitting the use of I, J and K stands until further orders.

However, the bench said the ACP shall be entitled to impose other conditions for regulating the parking of vehicles during the match, and the TNCA shall comply with all such conditions scrupulously.

The bench said TNCA shall indemnify the authorities from any damage or claims that may occur on account of the permission granted to them to use the three stands.

The bench posted the matter after six weeks

Messi has already won the previous three Ballon d'Or awards but Ibrahimovic, who himself was earlier backed to win the award as well, has conceded that Messi fully deserves to win the accolade yet again.

"Messi is the best player in the world, he deserves the Ballon d'Or," Ibrahimovic told BeIn Sport.

"I know he's won it several times but it is deserved. He plays like he's on PlayStation, it's unbelievable. People who say otherwise either don't know anything about football or are just talking nonsense."

The Swede pointed out former Real Madrid midfielder Zinedine Zidane as a player he wants to play like, citing the Frenchman's extraordinary playmaking abilities as his inspiration.

"When Zidane stepped onto the pitch, the 10 other guys just got suddenly better. It is that simple.

"It was magic. He was a unique player. He was more than good, he came from another planet. His team-mates became like him when he was on the pitch. A player that makes the difference is a player that makes the others better.

"I don't know if we will see others like him. That's my mentality. Make the others better. Because if they are better, I too will be better," he said.

Messi has recently extended his contract with Barcelona and is set to stay at the club until 2016.

The CPL will consist of teams built around caribbean players and will also feature a few international stars. The league is expected to be beamed across the world in a high-definition first class production and officials say the tournament will also be a showpiece attraction designed to enhance the Caribbean's tourism product.

"The WICB is particularly pleased about the opportunities the CPL will provide to players but is equally elated with the agreement which will allow for regional retainer contracts for a broad pool of players," Hunt added.

Hunte was among officials present at the launch, including CEO of Verus International Ajmal Khan, WICB CEO Michael Muirhead and a host of legends of the game and cricket officials and administrators.

The CPL will soon be announcing its tournament dates, locations and partners in 2013 as well as launching their website.

India has now lost their last three major series under Dhoni's captaincy including one at home, and the question pertaining to 'what now' was apt. Sunil Gavaskar favoured former cricketer Abbas Ali Baig's suggestion to make Kohli Test skipper but Atul Wassan was still circumspect.

England beat India at home after a 28-year-gap winning India 2-1 in the Test series after the fourth and final match ended in a draw.

Gavaskar suggested that it is time the selectors look to the future now.

Gavaskar said,"Till the fourth day of the Nagpur Test, I would have backed Dhoni. Now that Virat has come up with a hundred under trying circumstances where he curbed his natural game, he discovered a good part about himself. He is ready to take on the mantle of Test cricket. That needs to be looked at in a positive manner by everyone concerned as that is where the future lies."

India paid the price of thinking that preparing turning tracks would be enough to beat England in the just-concluded Test series as the visitors had better tweakers to exploit the dustbowls, feels former England captain Nasser Hussain.

India lost 1-2 against England in the four-match series that concluded with a draw on Monday in Nagpur, which was dominated by the Alastair Cook's men.

"India are not the side they were. If I was putting together a composite side from the two teams, I would start by picking the whole England attack. England, for once, had better spinners than India in Indian conditions," Hussain wrote in his column for 'The Daily Mail'.

The match has ended in a draw. And England are celebrating. What a moment! The last time they won a series in India was in 1984/85. Not many gave them a chance to do that here but they've proven everyone wrong with a brilliant performance.

Bell's superb ton kept India at bay and ensured England tasted success on Indian soil after 28 years.

Thats it England won this series by 2-1.

James Anderson is the MoM for his four wickets.

No surprises as Alastair Cook is the MoS.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is still undecided on whether it will allow its players to take part in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) next year. The deadline to issue the No Objection Certificates (NOC) for the tournament is over but the PCB has still not given the NOCs to any of its players.

"We will soon take a policy decision on permitting players to play in the BPL as presently we are dealing with other more important issues like the tour to India," a PCB official said.

The next player's auction for the upcoming season is scheduled to take place on the 19th of December. 20 players from Pakistan had represented the various franchises in the inaugural edition of the BPL, raising the standard of the league to a large extent.

A PCB source stated that the board was awaiting a response from their Bangladeshi counterparts for the confirmation of dates for the country's pending tour to Pakistan.

"The PCB is also concerned because of the pay disputes that arose between players and franchises this year," the source said.

The PCB was not too impressed with the BCB after they retracted on a promise to play two matches in Lahore. Apparently, the Bangladesh Board had been directed by the Dhaka High Court against sending their players to Pakistan because of security reasons.

Interestingly, the BCB President, Nazmul Hasan has said that they are in talks with the PCB for a short tour to Pakistan in January. "We can't go in December so we will speak to the PCB, about whether we can fit in a small tour before the BPL," Hassan said.

Hassan had earlier stated that the BCB had made a written commitment to the PCB, giving their approval for the short tour.

Day 4 India declare 326/9 (143 overs)
Ojha scored 3 off 32 balls and Ashwin declined singles in the first 2 overs of the day. No boundaries were scored today and India added only 29 runs. That leaves them declaring with 4 runs behind England's first innings score.

Day 4 Lunch England 17/0 (13 overs)
England's openers negotiate the first hour successfully and go into lunch with no damages done. Only 17 runs were scored in the 13 overs but they are looking extremely solid.

Day 4 Tea Time 81/2 (46.4 overs)
India have removed the openers and the wicket is gradually starting to assist spinners. Interesting times ahead. Trott has been positive and the next batsman - KP - will surely look to attack.

Day 4 Stumps 161/3 (79 overs)
England have done well to come out of a tricky situation. Trott and Bell put on a determined stand to arrest a slide. They were vulnerable after the dismissal of Pietersen and India were sensing an opening but it was quickly shut down. The pitch has not posed too many concerns for the batsmen. There is some assistance for the spinners but the slowness has allowed the batsmen to play it comfortably. India were very cheerful as they walked out.

Jonathan Trott helped England end the fourth day in an advantageous position owing to a resilient knock of 66 off 153 balls. On a pitch that had some awkward bounce and a bit of assistance for the spinners, Trott managed to hold fort to keep the bowlers at bay. The most significant aspect of the innings was the fact that it came under heavy pressure from the Indians, owing to the amount of sledging that Trott was victim to.

The second T20I between India and Pakistan scheduled for the 27th of December at the Motera in Ahmedabad, has been postponed by a day after a request by the Pakistan Cricket Board.

According to reports, the PCB requested the Indian Cricket Board to reschedule the game, as December 27 is the death anniversary of the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto, who was assassinated in 2007.

The rest of the itinerary remains unchanged. India and Pakistan play two Twenty20s and three ODIs between December 25 and January 6.

Robin van Persie's 15th goal of the season ensured Manchester United will spend Christmas Day top of the Premier League after they eased past Sunderland 3-1.

With victory assured, Ferguson felt sufficiently confident about easing Vidic back into the fray.

After only 13 appearances in a 16-month period that included a calf injury and two lots of knee surgery, the 31-year-old desperately needs to stay injury free in order to rediscover his old form.

Evidently, Vidic has plenty of work in front of him too judging by the uncharacteristic mistake that eventually led to United old-boy Campbell heading home from close range.

Day 3 Lunch India 146/4 (73 overs)
A good session for India. They made 59/0 in it. Both batsmen battled it out admirably. England gave nothing away either. The bowlers were disciplined but Dhoni and Kohli stuck to their task.

Day 3 Tea Time India 227/4 (100 overs)
India scored 81/0 in the session and both of them are looking well set at the crease. England tried a lot of things but nothing worked. Surprising that Anderson has bowled only 8 overs in the day though.

Day 3 Stumps 297/8 (130.1 overs)
Quite a fascinating day that. India were calling all the shots until the last hour of the day. Dhoni and Kohli batted with a lot of determination for the better part of the day. Kohli could not convert his 100 into a big one. India were still looking well set with Dhoni batting calmly but his run out in the fag end of the day turned the complexion of the game around. With 4 wickets in the last hour, England will now entertain hopes of taking a lead.

After receiving immense criticism from former players and experts, Mahendra Singh Dhoni managed to defy the odds and played a very uncharacteristic innings to keep India’s hopes alive in the 4th Test. In an innings that defined the word determination, Dhoni managed to battle it out on a tough wicket to bat on and scored a fighting 99.

A new franchise-based Twenty20 league will begin play in the Caribbean next year, the West Indies Cricket Board said, filling the hole left by the collapse of Allen Stanford's tournament.

The Stanford 20/20, held in 2006 and 2008, kick-started Caribbean interest in the shortest form of the game but since the collapse of the Texan's financial empire, leading to his imprisonment for fraud, there has been a lack of resources for players.

West Indies were crowned Twenty20 world champions this year and the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has run a lower-key regional tournament to keep top players involved in the shortest format.

But the new league promises to give Caribbean cricket a much needed financial boost too. The WICB said their agreement with Barbados and New York based merchant bank Verus International would ensure annual funding for new retainer contracts for regional players, above and beyond the 20 main squad members who are contracted.

"This will bring a host of benefits to players and West Indies Cricket in general," WICB president Julian Hunte said.

"A significant number of players at the regional level will benefit through greater financial stability both from playing in the league and from year-round retainer contracts while having an international platform on which to showcase their skills and talent.

"Most important is that the league will bring a huge financial injection into the Caribbean and create significant job opportunities across the region in a wide cross section of sectors."

The competition is expected to comprise up to six privately owned city-based teams. No details were immediately available on how those franchises would be created or any potential owners.

Ajmal Khan, chairman and CEO of Verus said there was huge potential for the league.

"We believe that the recently won World Twenty20 is a testament to the quality and excitement of West Indies cricket," he said.

"We intend to utilize the Twenty20 league to further develop and strengthen West Indies cricket by expanding the global fan base as well as the number of West Indian cricketers under regional retainer contracts".

Yesterday Indian bowler looking in form. So lets read whats happeen today.
Day 2 Lunch England score 277/7 (129 overs)
Prior and Root safely negotiated the first hour of the morning but just when it looked like they would take the game away from India, a double blow got the hosts back in the game; Ashwin struck to remove Prior and Ishant dismissed Bresnan for a duck.

England all out 330 (145.5 overs)
England will be pleased with this score. They were 139/5 at one stage and have recovered well to get past 300 on this track. Prior, Root and Swann got half centuries and have made sure that their bowlers have a competitive total to work with. Chawla was the highest wicket-taker for India but it was Ravindra Jadeja and Ishant Sharma who were the pick of the bowlers.

Day 2 Tea Time India 32/1 (12 overs)
England got off to a perfect start as Anderson knocked Sehwag over early. Pujara remained busy as soon as he came out and Gambhir began to open up towards the end.

Day 2 stumps India 87/4 (41 overs)
England's day once again. The lower order helped them to get in excess of 300 first. James Anderson produced a masterclass of reverse swing but the Indians did not help themselves by allowing the pressure to build. None of the batsmen seemed to be in the mood to score runs. Surivival seemed to be the watchword and they played right into England's hands. Pujara looked good until he was wrongly given out. None of the other batsmen had any excuses to offer.

Anderson gave England the perfect start as he got through the defence of Virender
Sehwag with a ball that angled in to the right hander.  Eventually Anderson
managed to dismiss Sehwag for a duck, Sachin for just two and Gambhir for 37, to end up
with figures of 3/24 in nine overs.

Hosts India triumphed in the inaugural Blind Cricket Twenty20 World Cup after defeating Pakistan by 29 runs in the title clash in Bangalore.

After Ketan Bhai Patel guided India to 258 with a hurricane knock of 98, the hosts restricted the visitors to 229 for nine in the allotted 20 overs.

Batting first, Prakash Jayaramaiah made an useful 42 while vice-captain Ajay Kumar Reddy contributed 25, helping India to post a big total.

For Pakistan, Mohammed Jameel scored a quick-fire 47, Ali Murthaza struck 38 while Mohammed Akram helped himself to 32 runs.

Having won eight matches on the trot in the group stage, Pakistan could not maintain the winning streak when it mattered most.

India had only lost to Pakistan in the group stage and thrashed Sri Lanka in the semifinal. Pakistan had spanked England by nine wickets in the semifinals.

India vs England, 4th Test, Nagpur is must win game for team India to level this series. Alastair Cook's side has been in spectacular form, and the skipper has led from the front. Two consecutive losses, the first time against England on homes soil since the 1976-77 Test series, has forced India to make a few radical changes. Yuvraj Singh, who fared better than Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli but still didn't enjoy the best of times with the bat, has been dropped from the squad.

England have won the toss and elected to bat, Piyush Chawla and Ravindra Jadeja come in place of Zaheer and Yuvraj and Finn and Samit out, Bresnan and Root in.

On Lunch England score are 61/2 (32 overs)
India will be happy with this session. They lost the toss and have got 2 early wickets, including that of Cook. Ishant Sharma - the lone pacer in the eleven - was the wicket-taker on both occasions. The spinners were tight but haven't managed to trouble the batsmen yet. Jonathan Trott and Pietersen are slowly settling down and will look to rebuild the innings.

On Tea Time England are 133/4 (65 overs)
India have picked up 2 more wickets and England are making slow progress. Pietersen is still there, and he is the key for England. The pitch is slow and the bounce is uneven

On Day 1 stumps England are 199/5 (97 overs)
India's over-rate has been brilliant and this is why they bowled more than 90 overs. Pietersen departed for a well-made 73 to Ravindra Jadeja. Joe Root and Matt Prior ensured that England suffered no further jolts with an unbeaten 60 run stand. Ishant Sharma was the pick of the bowlers and he got the ball to reverse swing. The Indian spinners stifled the flow of runs and England will have to bat very well to ensure they reach a score close to 300 on a pitch that is very slow and low.

Pietersen is renowned for his tremendous ability to take the attack to the opposition, but he showcased that he can also defend brilliantly and that he has the patience to wear out an attack. He scored 73 off 188 deliveries at a rather surprising strike rate of under 38, but his 10 hits to the fence proved to be a constant reminder to the Indian team about the threat he possesses. No wonder the Indians celebrated wildly when they saw the back of the swashbuckling batsman.

Arsenal Chief Executive Ivan Gazidis has described Arsenal's defeat to Bradford City as "not good enough", and said he is tired of "delivering the message".

Speaking at a meeting with supporters that had been organised before the remarkable League Cup upset, Gazidis apologised to the fans and insisted they "deserve better".

"That is something we will work hard to put right. We all work here and are desperate to deliver the success and trophies we all want. Look into the eyes of the staff here, look at the way they talk.

"We will get this right. I initially thought this would be a great opportunity to spread Christmas cheer. I don't think it will be but I hope to speak to all of you."

The one change that may come regards transfer spending, with the club finally prepared to significantly bolster their squad in January. Some reports have suggested Wenger will have up to £60m to purchase players of higher quality.

Australian cricket great Adam Gilchrist believes the one-day format is on an irreversible slide and will be "history" in three years, a report said on Thursday.

The trailblazing wicketkeeper-batsman fears the 50-over game, which has been losing its appeal in Australia since the ascent of Twenty20 cricket, will likely not last beyond the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

"I reckon about three years, as I see it, and it will be pretty much gone," Gilchrist, who made his name in Australia's one-day team before a brilliant 96-match Test career, told radio station Triple M.

"There is a World Cup in 2015 - I believe TV deals are all locked away to get to that, and those commitments will be fulfilled. But after that I think it will be history.

"I suspect that one-day cricket may be obsolete in about three years' time," he added.

"I suspect that after that the appetite for it might diminish, and all the TV programmers and the administrators will be focusing on the two other forms (Twenty20 and Test cricket).

"Twenty20, let's face it, is the revenue stream that keeps the longer version alive."

More than 30 years after limited-overs cricket in coloured clothing took off in Kerry Packer's World Series revolution in Australia, crowds have dropped off dramatically in recent years -- a decline hastened by the Twenty20 boom.

A total of 456,264 spectators attended one-day internationals in the Australian summer of 1999-2000, a figure that plummeted to 251,916 last season.

Cricket Australia spokesman Peter Young said the governing body did not share Gilchrist's views.

"The World Cup is the world's fourth-biggest sporting event. It's got a viewing audience of a billion people," he told reporters.

"Our own research shows when you measure the affection of cricket with the Australian public that ODI cricket has still got a lot of life left in its legs."

Shakib, from the small western town of Magura, has been the mainstay of the Bangladesh team since he made his international debut in 2006. He is the country's highest-earning player and its only Indian Premier League player.

In the last three years, he led the International Cricket Council's all-rounders' rankings in Test and one-dayers.

Bangladesh's top fashion and advertising model Monalisa, who uses one name, is also marrying her American boyfriend in Dhaka. The couple will host a party at a posh club Wednesday night.

"12/12/12 is a memorable day. This magic day won't come again," Monalisa told reporters.

Bangladesh's star player and formerly the nation's most eligible bachelor Shakib al Hasan was set to marry his American girlfriend Wednesday in a ceremony timed for 12/12/12, a friend and local reports said.

The 25-year-old cricketer, the world's leading all-rounder, will tie the knot with an American of Bangladeshi origin in a private family ceremony organised on the once-in-a-lifetime date, his friend told AFP.

"They want to make the occasion memorable by marrying on 12/12/12. But only a few people are invited in the ceremony," the friend said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

A spokesman for the upmarket Ruposhi Bangla hotel in Dhaka said the couple would hold a small family party at the hotel. "To the best of my knowledge, it's a wedding party," he told AFP.

Shakib introduced his future wife, 23-year-old Umme Ahmed Shishir, to fellow cricketers on Monday during the Bangladesh-West Indies Twenty20 cricket match in the capital Dhaka.

According to Bengali daily Samakal, the left-arm spinner met Shishir, a Minnesota University graduate, in London in 2010 when he was playing for English county side Worcestershire.

Social media was flooded with photos of the couple. Comments from some heartbroken girls questioned the cricketer's choice in marrying an allegedly hard-partying expatriate.

Mohinder Amarnath has created a storm in the Indian media and the cricketing fraternity by suggesting that the Indian selectors were on the verge of replacing MS Dhoni with Virender Sehwag as India's new captain after the 0-4 debacle in Australia.

The outspoken former selector, Amarnath admitted that "certain internal reasons" stopped the selection committee from replacing Dhoni then.

Amarnath, who was tipped to replace Krish Srikkanth as the chief selector before being unceremoniously booted out, said, "Definitely, there were discussions to replace Dhoni and people had even agreed to do so, but for some internal reason it didn't happen. I would not like to divulge what the reasons were. But when the time is right, I will let the people of this country know about the reasons."

It is now learned that Amarnath and the selection committee were overruled because a BCCI insider showed him the constitution and confirmed that the selectors' decision could be overturned by the powers-that-be. The 69-Test veteran though refused to confirm this.

"I would neither agree (with) nor deny this," remarked Amarnath.

Phil Parkinson's League Two players did not just beat Arsenal in this Capital One Cup quarter-final, for much of this match they outplayed Arsene Wenger's woeful Gunners to reach a first ever semi-final.

The spot-kick specialists won their ninth successive penalty shoot-out 3-2 after Thomas Vermaelen struck the post.

The Arsenal skipper had earlier appeared to rescue the Gunners with a header three minutes from normal time to equalise Garry Thompson's first-half volley.
But keeper Matt Duke defied the Premier League side to send the tie to a shoot-out - and glory for Bradford.

The defeat in sub-zero temperatures, and another failure in Arsenal's seven-year quest for silverware, will chill the veins of Wenger as he contemplates the season so far.
The humiliation was further intensified by Wenger's breaking his long-held rule and fielding a full-strength side in the League Cup.

The 23,971 sell-out crowd, Bradford's biggest since 1960, had groaned as the teams were read out but they were soon cheering when their top-scorer Nahki Wells out-muscled Vermaelen and forced a sprawling save from Wojciech Szczesny.

Though referee Mike Dean ruled Bermuda international Wells had used too much force, it gave some hope to the Bantams.

Arsenal, meanwhile, passed up opportunities to test Duke from good positions, Vermaelen and Lukas Podolski both heading over.

Hope turned to jubilation for the Bradford fans in the 16th minute when a free-kick led to Thompson's goal.
Vermaelen had blocked off Wells and Gary Jones caused mayhem to Arsenal's zonal markers with his free-kick, Will Atkinson flicking it on for an unmarked Thompson to gleefully fire home.
It could have been 2-0 after Jones' corner found Rory McArdle and only Kieran Gibbs' clearance on the goal-line prevented further embarrassment for Wenger's men.
As the temperature dropped so did Arsenal's spirits, with Per Mertesacker being regularly beaten in the air by James Hanson.

Arsenal needed inspiration from somewhere and Francis Coquelin was almost the unlikely source with a skilful dribble through two challenges before rattling a shot against the foot of the post with Duke looking beaten.

Almost immediately, Santi Cazorla tried his luck from 20 yards but was a couple of yards wide.

Bradford's goal took on a charmed life when a more typical Arsenal move ended with Gibbs driving in a cross and Gervinho, from two yards out, somehow contriving to let the ball go through his legs.
The Bantams gave notice that their threat was not at an end when Hanson flicked on into Wells' path and his shot trickled agonisingly wide.

The Gunners' frustrations continued in the second half, Jack Wilshere flashing a shot well wide, then Gervinho mis-controlling when through on goal.

It was well past the hour when Duke was forced into his first save, parrying Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's first-time shot from fellow substitute Tomas Rosicky.

As time ticked down, Duke was in action again to deny Wilshere from the edge of the box.

The desperation finally paid dividends with three minutes of normal time remaining. After his corner had been half-cleared, Cazorla whipped in a delicious cross for Vermaelen to head home from close range.

Two brilliant saves in quick succession by Duke from Cazorla took the game into extra time.

Finally, Arsenal started to look like the Premier League side as Rosicky and Wilshere started to pull the strings. Duke's stunning save denied Gibbs, then Sagna's header was cleared off the line by Jones.

Cazorla nearly won it with a stunning, swerving effort from fully 30 yards that struck the crossbar, but Bradford held out for the shoot-out.

Arsenal were always on the back foot from when Cazorla had their first spot-kick saved, even more so when Marouane Chamakh hit the post.

Bradford could even afford to see Wojciech Szczesny deny Ritchie Jones and Stephen Darby before Vermaelen's miss sent Valley Parade into ecstasy.

England Twenty20 captain Stuart Broad is a doubtful starter for the two T20 Internationals against India after the pacer was sent for a scan on his left heel.

Broad first had a scan on his injury during England's second tour match in Mumbai last month, but he went on to play in the first two Tests before being dropped. He was not a part of the playing XI in the third Test at Kolkata.

While there is little chance of Broad being recalled for the fourth and final Test, commencing on Thursday in Nagpur, he remains an integral part of England's T20 side.

If Broad fails to recover in time, England would also have to name a new captain for the slam-bang format.

Eoin Morgan is most likely to replace him. The two T20 matches are scheduled to take place in Pune and Mumbai on December 20 and 22, respectively.

Former Indian cricketer as well as selector, Mohinder Amarnath has lashed out at Indian skipper MS Dhoni saying that he does not deserve a place in the team let alone captain it. He has also hit out at the selectors who he felt did not have the guts to drop him from the post.

"Dhoni doesn't find a place in the team. What has he done for the team in the last one year? He is not fit (to be in the team) considering his performance in the last one year. However, the selection committee does not have guts to remove Dhoni," the 62-year-old told the Times of India.

Stating that he did not have anything personal against Dhoni, Amarnath said that India should look at broader perspectives before arriving at decisions. "I am not against him, or it is not that I do not like him. But we should look at it with a broader perspective. It is important to look at current performance of players rather than past performances."

Amarnath also endorsed the idea of split captaincy and proposed the names of Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir for the ODI and Test captaincy respectively. "There is no harm in having different captains for different forms of the game. I am impressed with Virat Kohli in the shorter version of the game. Gautam Gambhir could be a replacement for Dhoni in Tests," he concluded.

Amarnath was tipped to succeed Krishnamachari Srikkanth as the head of the selection panel but lost out after his tiff with the former chairman of selectors in September 2012.

Pakistan on Monday dropped big-hitting allrounder Shahid Afridi from their squad for the three-match one-day international series against arch-rivals India starting this month.

The 32-year-old captained Pakistan in their 2011 World Cup campaign, which ended in a semi-final defeat to India, but has been in poor form of late, managing just 76 runs and five wickets in his last 10 one-dayers.

He will miss the 50-over series -- the neighbours' first in five years -- but selectors kept faith with him for the shortest form of the game, naming him in the 15-man Twenty20 squad led by Mohammad Hafeez.

Shoaib Malik likewise misses out on the one-day squad but makes the T20 list, while experienced allrounder Abdul Razzaq was axed altogether as chief selector Iqbal Qasim said it was time to blood some younger players in one of sport's fiercest rivalries.

"We have selected a balanced team with the consensus of the selection committee, both the captains and the coach with a hope that these teams will give good results on the India tour," Qasim told reporters.

Afridi has taken 348 wickets and scored more than 7,000 runs in his 349 one-day internationals but there has been speculation over his future after a poor run and a weak showing at the Twenty20 World Cup in Sri Lanka in September-October.

"We have selected Afridi in the Twenty20 squad only and have given Zulfiqar Babar a chance in both the teams as he has been performing well in domestic cricket," said Qasim of the uncapped 34-year-old left-arm spinner.

Imran Nazir, who opened the batting at the World Twenty20, was dropped, while batsman Asad Shafiq and left-arm spinner Raza Hasan were ruled out through injury.

Pakistan fly to New Delhi on December 22 and play the first Twenty20 match in Bangalore three days later.

The second Twenty20 match will be played in Ahmedabad on December 27 followed by one-day matches in Chennai (December 30), Kolkata (January 3) and Delhi (January 6).

Twenty20 Squad: Mohammad Hafeez (capt), Nasir Jamshed, Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal, Umar Amin, Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi, Saeed Ajmal, Mohammad Irfan, Junaid Khan, Sohail Tanveer, Umar Gul, Asad Ali, Zulfiqar Babar, Ahmed Shahzad

One-day squad: Misbah-ul-Haq (capt), Mohammad Hafeez, Azhar Ali, Younis Khan, Nasir Jamshed, Haris Sohail, Kamran Akmal, Saeed Ajmal, Wahab Riaz, Junaid Khan, Umar Gul, Zulfiqar Babar, Imran Farhat, Umar Akmal, Anwar Ali.
