Former Indian cricketer as well as selector, Mohinder Amarnath has lashed out at Indian skipper MS Dhoni saying that he does not deserve a place in the team let alone captain it. He has also hit out at the selectors who he felt did not have the guts to drop him from the post.

"Dhoni doesn't find a place in the team. What has he done for the team in the last one year? He is not fit (to be in the team) considering his performance in the last one year. However, the selection committee does not have guts to remove Dhoni," the 62-year-old told the Times of India.

Stating that he did not have anything personal against Dhoni, Amarnath said that India should look at broader perspectives before arriving at decisions. "I am not against him, or it is not that I do not like him. But we should look at it with a broader perspective. It is important to look at current performance of players rather than past performances."

Amarnath also endorsed the idea of split captaincy and proposed the names of Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir for the ODI and Test captaincy respectively. "There is no harm in having different captains for different forms of the game. I am impressed with Virat Kohli in the shorter version of the game. Gautam Gambhir could be a replacement for Dhoni in Tests," he concluded.

Amarnath was tipped to succeed Krishnamachari Srikkanth as the head of the selection panel but lost out after his tiff with the former chairman of selectors in September 2012.
